Why Do Luxury Dog Boarding Facilities Charge More Than Traditional Kennels?
Understand boarding price differences by comparing rooms, included activities, individual requests, optional services and full-stay quotes.

Boarding prices can differ because providers offer different rooms, activities, staffing arrangements and service packages. Operating costs also vary. A higher price alone does not reveal which of those factors applies.
When comparing a luxury resort with a traditional kennel, ask what the quoted rate buys for your dog. Avoid treating price as a substitute for checking care quality.

Accommodation Can Change the Rate
Compare the room type, size, bedding and other confirmed features. Ask whether an accommodation upgrade changes any services or only the space.
Do not assume a suite includes more staff attention, quieter surroundings or medical monitoring unless those details are confirmed.
Staffing and Supervision Need Their Own Questions
Ask who provides care during activities and rest, what training the team receives and how concerns are escalated. A provider can explain its service without you needing to assume its internal cost structure.
Howliday uses remote monitoring overnight. Confirm the response process and any care needed during those hours. A higher room rate does not by itself establish overnight staff on site, continuous observation or a dedicated caregiver.
Included Activities Affect Comparisons
Howliday’s general boarding information includes all-day daycare. Its daycare service describes supervised playgroups matched by size and personality. Discuss suitability and confirm available alternatives if the group arrangement does not fit your dog.
For another provider, ask which activities are included and priced separately. Compare the total for activities your dog can actually use.
Special Requirements May Change the Quote
Discuss food preparation, medication, handling, mobility and other care needs before booking. Confirm whether each requirement can be accommodated and any applicable charge.
An extra fee does not establish that a provider can deliver intensive medical care. Confirm suitability with the relevant professionals.
Optional Services Should Be Itemized
Training, grooming and food extras may be separate purchases. Howliday’s board-and-train program is distinct from standard boarding and is offered with Standing Obeytion Dog Training.
Ask which provider delivers each service and whether it is available during the stay. Do not count an optional extra as included value.
Compare a Concrete Stay
As published on October 5, 2026, Howliday lists kennels at $50 per night, suites at $60 per night, and an additional dog in the same kennel at $40 per night. Confirm current rates, suitability for sharing, optional extras and applicable terms directly on the pricing page and with the team.
At those listed rates, a seven-night stay for one dog is $350 in a kennel or $420 in a suite before extras and other applicable charges. The $70 difference does not itself describe a difference in supervision. Request a complete quote for your dates.
Check the Terms Around the Nightly Rate
Ask about deposits, cancellation, arrival and collection windows, holiday terms and charges for changes. Confirm how nights are counted.
Keep the quote and booking confirmation. Two similar nightly rates can lead to different totals when the included services and terms differ.
Judge Value Through Specific Care
Compare safety procedures, cleaning, communication and the ability to meet the dog’s needs separately from price. A lower-cost provider may be suitable, and a higher-cost package may contain extras you do not need.
Use the boarding questions checklist to complete the comparison.
